Communication is integral to a growing business, both internally and externally.
As your business grows, so does the number of users you have. Are you still using the analogue PSTN system? This is being turned off by 2025 and will mean your old systems will no longer work.
What is the 2025 PSTN switch off?
BT has made the decision to switch off the public switched telephone network, PSTN, and move to a fully digital system (VoIP). The technology used in analogue telephone lines has fallen further and further behind and is much more expensive than the digital systems available. If you haven’t made the switch by 2025, you won’t be able to use your phone.
Why does your business need a landline number?
Geographical numbers are important to most small to medium businesses. Local numbers instil more confidence in your company as there is a certain level of trust acquired when your clients can see you are based where you say you are. Even though with the advancements of VoIP systems allowing you to maintain a geographical number, but be based anywhere in the country, or even the world. As long as you are legally allowed to trade in the UK, you can have a UK number.
What is VoIP?
Have you ever made a call through certain apps such as Microsoft Teams, Facebook, or WhatsApp? Then you have already used VoIP to communicate. Voice over internet protocol is the term for using the internet to transfer audio, and sometimes visual data to another user. The issue with using one of the mentioned apps is they require the other person to have that app as well. VoIP telecom systems act as a landline, so the recipient doesn’t need any special software to get in touch with you. You can opt for physical phone handsets that look and act like regular landline phones, or have an app on your computer or smart device.
What is a desk Phone?
When working at your desk, or home office, you can opt to have the phone separate from your other devices. A desk phone is a standard-looking landline phone that connects to your PC and the internet so you can take and make calls as normal. You can have a large number of desk phones on the same network connected to the same inbound number so you never miss a call. You can have several numbers that direct to certain departments, and extensions so people can call another team member based elsewhere in the company.
What is a Softphone?
Some of your team may be required to go to site visits, or they are on the road a lot for client acquisition. When they have to leave the office, you still want to be able to contact them, or their existing clients might need to speak to them. A Softphone is where you download an application, we supply 3CX, and this acts like a regular desk phone but on their smartphone! If you had a regular line that you diverted to their mobile, it would be very expensive, whereas the app acts like a regular phone.
